Do it yourself home cough and sore throat remedies

If you are suffering from a sore throat or an attack of cough, these home remedies might just help you sooth your sore throat or cough. Please always consult with your healthcare provider first.

The best vitamin to add during a flu, sore throat or cough is vitamin C as it will lessen the duration of the sickness.

1. Lemon & honey: make a tea by boiling filter water first. Take one cup of boiling water and add a splash of fresh lemon about 2-3 tsps., Manuka honey* about ½ tsp., 15-16% strength stir and sip on it.

2. Astragalus chai tea: Astragalus root*** is an herb that has the benefits to build the immune system. It has been used by Chinese medicine for centuries. It’s used to treat infections of the common cold and upper respiratory infections. Method of preparation boil filter water 3 cups, add about 5pieces of organic root about 1” in size, 1” Ceylon cinnamon stick, fresh ginger peeled 1”, cardamom pods 3, peppercorns 2-3, cloves whole 2.

Steep in low heat for about 2 hours covered. Remove from heat strain and store until ready to use. To serve reheat if necessary and use ½ cup of the concentrated tea, plus ½ cup of boiling filter water. If desired serve with a splash of nondairy milk**, honey (Manuka)* ½ tsp., and sprinkle of Ceylon cinnamon. Seep on tea slowly.

3. Apple cider vinegar: Use a wash towel or a thick disposable hand towel and pour few tablespoons of boiling water over in the center of the towel or just enough to soak the center. Be careful not to burn yourself. Next add a generous amount of apple cider vinegar with the mother. Ring out the excess of fluids, the towel should feel warm to the touch, but not hot to cause a burn as the cold apple cider cools down slightly the hot water on the towel. Apply this warm towel immediately to the outside of the affected throat area or over sinuses on the face (cheeks, forehead and temples) and not over your eyes please. This remedy works usually within 5 minutes and you can remove the towel at that time. I have used this remedy not just for sinus, but for uterus pain and intestinal pain myself.
